New gym coming October 2024!
Luke Phillips was in Thai Boxing gyms before he could walk, learning from the very start, he was training before he was three. This early start means he has already over 25 years experience in Muay Thai. A highly decorated junior competitor, he was unbeaten as an adult fighter before retiring from competition to concentrate on teaching. Now the head instructor at GFC Luke has spent a lot of time in Thailand, living in Muay Thai camps alongside the Thais. His knowledge picked up there together with his training in England makes him already one of the best instructors around.
Darren started Muay Thai in 1983 with Master Sken and Sandy Holt. He quickly completed the Sitnarong grading system and competed against some of the best fighters in the country at the time. Darren was teaching for Sandy in Bolton when he opened up Hewood Thai Boxing club in 1983 and then, three years later, moved to the current premisses and started what would become GFC Muay Thai. His study of Muay Thai scoring bought home to him the need to concentrate on strong basics and a very Thai Style approach to training, something reenforced in his numerous trips to Thailand. Darren also spent time as a professional boxing coach and has worked with numerous World, European and British champions. In 2023 Darren was granted the title Master by Grand Master Sken.
Kieran started training over ten years ago, he has also lived in Thailand, training and competing alongside Thai Fighters. Kieran won his first ten fights, but has had an extended break from fighting due to an injury (not Thai boxing related). During this time Kieran has still studied Muay Thai and this has helped him become a very proficient instructor. His years training alongside some of the best fighters in the UK, and in Thailand give him a vast knowledge to draw from when coaching.
Lewis George started training at GFC when he was just five years old, after ten fights he had a record of 5wins 5 losses, but then went on to win his next 50 fights picking up numerous, area, British, European and World titles. After a brief spell at Bad Company Gym Lewis returned “home” to GFC. He has also visited Thailand, living in a camp with the Thais, he had his first fight in Thailand, winning by 1st round ko and is now unbeaten as an adult professional.
The newest instructor to join the ranks of the GFC team, Dan has been training about five years. He is also unbeaten as a fighter, and is a very “correct” technique. Dan has just returned home from a 3 month trip to Thailand where he had 3 fights 3 wins.
GFC Muay Thai has a no gimmicks approach to training and learning Muay Thai. All the instructors there have spent time in Thailand, learning the Thai Style approach to Muay Thai. The GFC style stresses the importance of strong basics. The correct stance and footwork leads to a great style of Muay Thai which has cemented GFC’s reputation as one the best gyms in the country.
